As many hot tub owners know, it can be challenging to achieve the right water balance. We recently had a new customer ask for advice on how to keep their spa water from becoming cloudy and foamy. Our experts at iONRx® have decades of experience maintaining pools and hot tubs and were able to help identify the problem and provide a solution to keep the water crystal clear. Read our conversation below for more information and please chat with us if you have specific questions.
Customer | Hi, I’m having a hard time keeping the water clear, it’s all cloudy and foamy. |
iONRx® | We would love to help. The iONRx® solution has been fully tested and virtually every client that uses the technology expresses how there is no foaming issue with using the product. iONRx® itself does not foam because the formulation does not have that property. Usually, foaming is caused by something else that is easily repairable. It is usually caused by alkalinity in the water or detergents in clothing. Did you purchase one of our starter kits? What oxidizer are you using? Did you start with fresh water? |
Customer | Thanks for replying back to me. I have a two hundred gallon hot tub. I drained the water and started with new water with the iONRx® stabilizer that I purchased. I didn’t purchase the starter kit, and I do not have a test kit either, but after two days the water was foamy. I did what the instructions said. |
iONRx® | Do you have the ability to test the water chemistry? Alkalinity can cause clouding and foaming as well. Are your filters clean? Are you on a well or city water? Are you using a water softener? With only two days of use, it could be just your tap water or pipes clearing out. Let’s start here, and we will get you straightened out. |
Customer | Hi, I have new filters, and my city has a water hardness of water of 20. I am not using a water softener. |
iONRx® | I would suggest adding some oxidizer and run the tub for a short while. You can shake the bottle of iONRx®, it won’t foam up like a bottle of soap. Try running the tub with some oxidizer. Let me know how that goes. |
Customer | Why do I need an Oxidizer? |
iONRx® | You need some form of oxidation. I believe this is your problem. This is why we offer the Starter Kit. Our president reads all of our reviews and emails. We want people to be satisfied with our product. The water must have an oxidizer or it will get cloudy. On the back of the sheet we sent with the liquid, it fully explains how to use the oxidizer. I recommend the 1-inch chlorine tabs. Very consistent use and you will have the residual of tap water. Let me know if you want me to send it out. You will probably receive it Wednesday. I am confident this is your problem, but it could be your bathing suit because it is washed in detergents which can make it foam. Bathing lotions and residual from shampoo can also cause foaming and clouding. |
Customer | Hi, Matt. Thanks for the oxidizer, but I’m trying to get away from chlorine. Do I still use this chlorinated oxidizer with iONRx® product? |
iONRx® | Yes. If you follow the directions, you will maintain a level of chlorine similar to drinking water. You need an oxidizer to get rid of things like detergents and skin particles. There are no filters that can pull the small particles out of the water. I would not suggest non-chlorine oxidizer, which we do sell because these products contain sulfates, and you need a good deal of them to maintain clarity. These products are actually more irritating and unhealthy than a very low level of chlorine. By using the tablets they will dispense a small amount over the course of the week. I have a daughter that is allergic to chlorine, and we use this method of low-level chlorine. She does not have any issues with it. There is no magic cure for oxidation, so you need to “dissolve” these contaminants. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks! |
Customer | Thank you very much for taking care of my spa situation. I would recommend your product to anyone. Thanks again! |
